    Dance Team

    Purpose
The purpose of the Edgewood Attitude Dance Team is to promote school spirit and personal investment in the many social happenings on the Edgewood College campus. The team performs at various events during the fall Homecoming period, including soccer and volleyballs games, as well as all home men's a women's basketball games.

    Practices
The team practices three times a week, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 10:30 pm from team selection and on through spring. Attendance is expected at all practices and performances, except where extraneous circumstances apply.

    Expenses
The majority of expenses encountered that are a part of the Attitude Dance Team experience will be covered by funds present in the dance team account. Currently, the dance team is listed as a student organization, and receives minimal funding. However, should superfluous expenses arise, there are various fundraising opportunities we will capitalize on, as a team.

In the past, additional money has generated by sponsoring a Youth Dance Clinic, by selling Krispy Kreme donuts, etc. Don't worry though - fund raising is a minimal time commitment!

    Tryouts
Tryouts will be in the early few weeks of the school year. Announcements will be made, an email will be sent out, and fliers will be posted to notify you of the upcoming tryout dates. Everyone is required to tryout each year, regardless of prior experience. Tryout week is mandatory, to be a part of the team. Only in cases of emergency or other extreme interferences will alternatives be made to tryout week attendance. If you are having difficulty attending that week, please contact Coach Erika Bozinovski [ebozinovski@wisc.edu] and notify her as soon as possible to see if arrangements can be made.

Try out week consists of three days - two for learning a 1-2 minute routine, and a third for trying out. The routine will be choreographed by the coach and cover all necessary skills and styles for being a part of the dance team. However, Additional technique is also required (splits, turns, jumps, etc...) with these being addressed, taught and perfected on the second night of tryout.

The final squad size will be determined after scores are tabulated. It will be approximately 10-18 members.

    Commitment
The Attitude Dance Team is a dedicated squad and teamwork is a requirement! However, the time commitment is not so great that members will not be able to be involved in other campus activities.

The majority of the time and commitment on the dance team is dedicated to practices and performances, as outlined above. Additional events may arise from week to week, but exceptions can be made on a situational basis.

If you have other questions, please contact the Attitude Dance Team Coach, Erika Bozinovski at 608-442-3542 or by email ebozinovski@edgewood.edu.

    Let's Go Eagles!

"Eddy" is the name of the beloved Edgewood College mascot. But just where was Eddy hatched?

The origin of the Eagle nickname dates back to the early 1970's when Edgewood College was turning coed. At this time the College began an intercollegiate basketball team and its first coach, John Engelbrecht, along with students Jim Wilson and Lyman "Woody" Woodman, were discussing possible mascots for the team.

Their conversations centered around mascots that would not be offensive and yet represent the school and team. They thought that an Eagle, which is a beautiful bird and soars high, would best represent the school and team. Thus, the name Edgewood College Eagles was born.

For Edgewood, a Catholic College in the Sinsinawa Dominican tradition, the Eagle is particularly significant.

According to Sr. Maggie Hopkins, Director for the Office of Dominican Mission at Edgewood College, in Christian tradition and art, the symbol for the writer of the Gospel of John, is the eagle - reminding the reader of the high point of reflection that the writer reached.

For the Sinsinawa Dominicans, founders of Edgewood College, the most accepted meaning of their name "Sinsinawa", comes from the Menominee Indians, meaning "Home of the Young Eagle." Today, it is not uncommon to see eagles flying over the Sinsinawa Mound area located in southwestern Wisconsin.
